Back in the Directory blog post published a few weeks ago we mentioned that the theme itself is just the beginning. Using add-ons you’ll be able to extend the functionality of your directory even further. Today I’ll be talking about two of them, Events Manager and Ad Manager. Expect to learn more about other add-ons as well within the next few days. Tevolution – Events Manager Once installed, the plugin will enable a new post type (events) and a bunch of new features within the Directory theme. The most important of these are recurring events. With the plugin both you (the admin) and regular visitors will be able to add events that reoccur on a weekly, monthly or yearly basis. The plugin will seamlessly integrate events in almost all areas of the theme. You’ll be able to display them on the map, on category pages and on the homepage (main listing area). The category pages will feature three distinctive tabs: Current, Upcoming and Past. Just like in listing category pages, AJAX based view switchers (grid, list and map) will be available for events as well. Other features include… Listing-Events bridge – when connected, events will appear on your listing detail pages inside a separate tab. Attending events functionality – visitors can select an event as “Attending”. Those events will then appear inside their user dashboard. Facebook events – stream events from Facebook pages inside author pages. Preloaded custom fields – the plugin will automatically activate most relevant fields and also generate a submission form. Future occurrences on detail page – when viewing a recurring event, the detail page will show a list of future events (that you can then visit). Tevolution – Events Manager is available now! Purchase add-on Templatic – Ad Manager Showcasing banners and ads in WordPress themes is nothing new, it’s even relatively simple with all the available widget areas. However, we felt there is still room for improvement. Instead of showing the same exact banner on each listing or category page, you can use the Ad Manager to create both category-specific and post-specific banners. As usual, the manager works with all your created post types. Banners can be setup as either images or HTML snippets. They can be inserted in category and detail pages, here are some of the locations: On category page: below category description, above each post, below each post, below all posts On... Read more »
